Eagles Rally in Doubleheader Sweep of Trojans

HANNIBAL, Mo. (3/21/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team rode two big offensive performances to take the first two of a four-game series with AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange by the final scores of 10-6 and 14-4 on Friday afternoon.

Gavin Mink led the way in game one, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Lawson Aaron and Luke Bullins drove in two runs each.

WBU jumped in front early after Skylar Morrison drew a bases-loaded walk and Lawson Aaron doubled to plate two more in the first inning.  Connor Brinkley brought Morrison home on a sacrifice fly, and Luke Bullins brought home the final two runs of the frame with a single to give Williams a 6-0 lead.

HLGU fought back to cut the lead to one after two runs in the first and three in the second.  Nicholas Jones was plunked with the bases loaded in the fourth to add an insurance run for WBU, but the Trojans made it a one-run game again with a score in the bottom of the fifth.

Jacob Watkins slugged an RBI single in the sixth and the Eagles added two more in the seventh to secure the win in game one.

HLGU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Charlie Culp, but the Eagles tied it on a solo shot from Alex Orman in the second.  The Trojans regained control of the lead after a two-run homer in the third and a wild pitch in the fourth put the home team up 4-1.

Williams cut into the lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Watkins and a bases-loaded hit by pitch on Jones.  Luke Bullins tied the game an inning later with a clutch RBI double, then took the lead on a single from Gavin Mink.

WBU went on to score two more in the sixth and post a seven run inning in the seventh to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Jacob Watkins led the way offensively in the second game, going 3-for-5 with four RBI's and two runs scored.

The wins bring WBU to 17-9 overall and back to a winning record in conference play at 10-8.  The Eagles will look to clinch a series win in the final two games against Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday, Mar. 22.  First pitch against the Trojans is set for 12 p.m. from Hannibal, Mo.
