Cofield Shines in Eagles Exhibition Loss to Central Oklahoma

 

EDMOND, Okla. (1/2/25) – The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team lost to Central Oklahoma in its first contest of the 2025 calendar year by the final score of 87-50 on Thursday afternoon.

Elisha Cofield recorded his third double-double of the season with 16 points on 8-for-16 shooting and a career-high 16 rebounds.  Cofield's 16 points led all scorers on the day.

As a team, WBU went 17-for-57 (29.8 percent) including a 3-for-17 mark from three-point range.  The Eagles were out-rebounded 45-37.

Williams fell behind quickly in the first half, conceding a 10-2 run to the Bronchos over the first three minutes.  WBU trailed 32-12 with 4:47 left in the first half, but ended the half on an 8-2 run powered by six points from Cofield to close the gap to 14 points.

Central Oklahoma kicked off the second half with an 11-2 run to balloon its lead back to 23.  WBU was unable to keep pace with the Bronchos' scoring attack and ultimately fell 87-50.

The loss will not count against WBU's overall season record, which stands at 4-6.  The Eagles return to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 7 to take on AMC foe Mission.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
