Taylor Twins Power Lady Eagles to Victory Over Eutectics
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (12/14/24) – Carmen and Charmen Taylor combined for 36 points as the Williams Baptist University women's basketball team handled business with an 89-45 victory over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Saturday afternoon.
Carmen Taylor led all scorers on the day with 22 points on 9-for-23 from the field. Her sister, Charmen Taylor, scored 14 on a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. Monica Horne took the team-lead on the glass with six rebounds in the contest.
Carmen Taylor finished one off of the single-game steals record with nine takeaways against the Eutectics.
Williams went 36-for-82 (43.9 percent) from the field as a team. Both squads went 3-for-17 from three-point range, with two of WBU's triples coming from the hot hand of Taylor Hooten. The Eagles won the rebound battle 51-34.
After UHSP tied the game 8-8 on a Kailana Reed layup, the Eagles used an 11-0 run to add some distance. Williams led 41-26 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles surged in the third quarter to extend the advantage, out-scoring UHSP 27-8 in the stanza. Taylor contributed six points to a 10-1 Eagle run early in the quarter to push the lead to 32. A Nijah Moore layup put WBU up 68-34 at the end of the third.
WBU took its largest lead of the night at 47 on a layup from Seanlajah Smith with 1:55 to go. The Eutectics scored one more bucket in the game to set the final at 89-45.
The win moves WBU to 6-3 overall on the season and 4-1 in AMC play. Next, the Eagles travel to Hilo, Hawai'i to compete in the Big Island Holiday Classic hosted by Hawai'i-Hilo. The Eagles will tip off at midnight central time (7 p.m. local) on Tuesday, December 17 against Edgewood.
