Eagles Sweep Ecclesia For Coach Abanathy's 100th Win

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Coach Abanathy got his 99th and 100th career wins today as the Eagles defeated Ecclesia 9-8 and 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Game One

Ecclesia game ready to play in game one and scored four runs in the first inning, one run in the second, and one run in the third. The Eagles got a run back in the second inning when Aaron Maragni singled to bring home Tate Isaacs. The Royals added another run in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-1. The Eagles responded with two runs in the home half of the sixth as Parker Jeffries hit a RBI groundout and Isaacs had a RBI double. Again, the Royals added a run in the top of the seventh and pushed the lead back out to 8-3, but the Eagles wouldn't go down quietly. Nicholas Jones hit a RBI sac fly to get things going in the seventh, then Jarron Brantley scored on a balk, Isaacs hit a RBI single that would load up the bases, and then Dylan Creech hit a walk-off 3 RBI single that would give the Eagles a 9-8 win. 

Isaacs went 4-4 to lead the team and finished with 2 RBIs, while Creech had 3 RBIs. 

Cole Edwards got the start and went 1/3 of an inning. He allowed four runs off one hit and walked two. Blaine Wood pitched 2.2 innings of relief and gave up two runs off three hits, walked one and struck out two. Parker Jeffries pitched 4.0 innings of relief and gave up two runs off six hits and struck out four. 

Game Two

The Eagles got the scoring started early in the second game as they scored three runs in the first, one in the second, and then one in the third. The Royals tried mounting a comeback by scoring two runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. The Royals had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh with one out, but then hit into a double play to end the game. The batter lined out to Jeffries at third base who then stepped on the bag to double off the runner. 

Dezmond Cordova went 3-3 to lead the team. Isaacs had 2 RBIs to lead the team. 

Cash Forrester got the start and pitched 4.0 innings. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out two. Skylar Morrison pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief and gave up two runs off one hit and walked two. Fowler Maddox pitched 1.1 innings of relief and struck out two. Eric Tolar pitched 1.0 inning of relief and got the save. He allowed two runs off two hits and walked two.

The Eagles travel to Searcy, Ark. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 for a doubleheader matchup at Harding. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
