Eagles Drop Saturday Rubber Match to Owls

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Williams baseball team dropped their rubber match on Saturday with the William Woods Owls 12-9. With the loss, the Eagles are now 14-16 overall and 2-4 in AMC play.

The Eagles got on the board early with a run in the first inning after Luis Febres hit a RBI single to left field. The Owls responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, three runs in the second, and a run in the third to take a 7-1 lead. Williams plated five runs in the fifth to trail 7-6 after Skylar Morrison hit a three-run shot to center field and Jarron Brantley hit a 2 RBI double to left field. William Woods extended their lead to 9-6 with a two-run homerun in the fifth. The Eagles tied it up at 9 in the sixth inning when Jacob Watkins hit a solo shot to left field, Nicholas Jones hit a RBI sac fly, and Febres hit a RBI groundout. The Owls quickly retook the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and this time they held the lead for good. 

Noah Willingham got the start on the mound and pitched 2.2 innings. He allowed seven runs off nine hits and struck out two. Cole Doke pitched 2.1 innings of relief and allowed two runs off five hits and walked one. Brevin Carlisle pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed three runs off two hits. Cash Forrester pitched 2.2 innings of relief and allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

The Eagles return to Shell Field for a three-game series against Harris-Stowe State. The Eagle and the Hornets will play a doubleheader on Friday, March 31 starting at noon and then a single game on Saturday, April 1 starting at noon.
