Eagles Fall to CRC in Home Finale
The Williams Baptist University baseball team concluded its 2023 home schedule with a 13-8 loss to Crowley's Ridge College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Shell Field.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 22-24 overall on the year, while the Pioneers improved to 15-21.
Williams trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the third inning when the offense came to life. Luis Febres doubled in a run to cut the deficit in half, while Dylan Creech followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to get within 4-3.
Parker Jefferies tied the game with an RBI groundout that plated Drake Gravatt, but the Eagles could not manage to push across the go-ahead run and the Pioneers responded in the next inning.
CRC scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-4.
Nicholas Jones got WBU within 6-5 in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly, but it would be the last time the home squad would be within striking distance.
The Pioneers continued to add to their lead for the remainder of the afternoon, scoring at least one run in all but one inning.
Going into the bottom of the ninth inning, Williams trailed 13-6 but looked to have a rally going when Chavaris Adaway and Skylar Morrison each drove in runs, but the rally stalled when Adaway was thrown out at home trying to tag up from third base to end up the game.
WBU finished the afternoon with 16 hits but also left 10 runners on base.
Desmond Cordova led with three hits, while Tate Isaacs, Chas Bell, Febres, Creech and Morrison all had two hits.
The Eagles conclude regular season play with a trip to Batesville, Ark., to take on the Scots of Lyon College in a three-game AMC tilt April 27-28.
