Eagles Drop Doubleheader to Champion Christian

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (2/16/24) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team lost its road doubleheader against Champion Christian on Thursday by the scores of 6-5 and 4-3.

Jacob Watkins highlighted the Eagles lineup by going 4-for-7 with one RBI and two runs scored in the doubleheader.

The Eagles struck first in game one with a five-run top of the third, aided by a 2-RBI double to left field from Gavin Mink.

Champion struck back in the bottom of the inning with a five-run inning of its own to even the score at five a piece.  Champion would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded hit by pitch to take game one by the final score of 6-5.

Champion found the first run in the bottom of the first of game two on a fielder's choice.  WBU struck back in the top of the second with Jacob Watkins scoring on a fielder's choice off the bat of Trey Barnes.

WBU grabbed the lead in the top of the third courtesy of a Mason Andrews 2-RBI double to left field.

Williams held the lead until Champion tied the game on a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. 

Champion would take game two by the final score of 4-3 on a walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Eagles will pick back up on Friday, Feb. 23 with the first two games of a four game set with Trinity Christian.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 P.M. at Shell Field in Walnut Ridge.
