Jones Breaks Career Home Run Record in Eagles Win Over Pioneers

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/26/24) – Nick Jones broke the Williams Baptist career home run record with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning in WBU's 13-8 win over Crowley's Ridge.

The Eagles opened up scoring with a three-run inning in the bottom of the first.  Luis Febres brought home the game's first run on a bases loaded single. Tate Isaacs followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Nick Jones, and Lawson Aaron rounded out the inning when he singled to drive in Drake Gravatt.

The Pioneers responded in the top of the third inning by taking advantage of defensive errors by the Eagles and stringing together multiple hits to take a 7-3 lead.

Nick Jones put WBU back in the ballgame with a three-run longball to left field in the bottom half of the fourth to bring the score to 7-6.  The longball made Jones the sole career home run leader at Williams Baptist with 15 home runs.

The Eagles offense went silent again until Skylar Morrison tied the game at seven with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

WBU took the lead back in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of an RBI single from Gavin Mink.  RBI singles from Jacob Watkins and Luis Febres gave the Eagles two insurance runs later in the inning that brought the lead to 10-7.

Crowley's Ridge attempted to spark the offense once again with a solo home run from Jackson Imler in the top of the eighth inning, but the Eagles quelled any doubt with three more runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Eagles bullpen shut down the Pioneers the rest of the game, with Jacob Eubanks earning the win.  Noah Burns shut down the heart of Crowley's Ridge's offense in the ninth to take WBU's 18th win of the season.

Williams will resume American Midwest Conference action this weekend beginning with a Friday doubleheader against Harris-Stowe State in St. Louis, Mo.  First pitch is slated for 1 PM at Stars Park.
