Eagles Roll Hornets in Historic Offensive Performance

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (3/29/24) – On the back of a historic team offensive performance, the Williams Baptist University baseball team swept a Friday doubleheader against Harris-Stowe State by the final scores of 14-0 and 21-2.

In game one, the Eagles hit the third most home runs in a game in school history.  In game two, WBU set a new record for hits in a game and tied the record for the most doubles in the game.

The Eagles kicked off game one with a big first inning, kicked off by a three-run home run from Skylar MorrisonJacob Watkins followed up with a home run the very next at bat to give WBU a quick 4-0 lead.

Cody Jones drove in Tate Isaacs and Lawson Aaron with an RBI double, and Gavin Mink drove Jones in with an RBI single to cap off a seven run top of the first for Williams Baptist.

WBU added four more runs in the top of the third, powered by a 2-run homer from Tyrell Burnett, to take an 11-0 lead.

Tate Isaacs plated Jacob Watkins on a line drive single to center field to add the 12th Eagles run in the top of the sixth.

Nicholas Jones added the exclamation point on the win by adding to his career home run record with a two-run longball in the seventh to move the Eagles up by 14.

Noah Willingham turned in his first complete game shutout of the season, fanning 10 Hornets hitters and allowing only one walk.

Tyrell Burnett sparked the Eagles offense in game two, opening up scoring with a 2-run shot in the top of the first inning.  WBU added four more runs in the inning courtesy of singles from Watkins, Isaacs, and Aaron, as well as Gavin Mink drawing a bases loaded walk.

Skylar Morrison continued the offensive onslaught in the second inning with a 2-run home run.  Lawson Aaron added another run on a groundout, and Gavin Mink plated the tenth Eagle run with a single.

The Eagles added four more runs over the next two innings to take a 15-0 lead before Harris-Stowe got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

WBU continued to put pressure on by chalking five straight hits to start the top of the fifth that resulted in five more runs to push the Eagles lead to 20-1.  Seth Jones added the exclamation point with a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning to add the final Eagles run of the day.

The Eagles took home a 7-inning mercy rule victory in game two by the final score of 21-2.

Parker Jeffries turned in five innings of work on the mound, allowing only two earned runs while striking out six.  Fowler Maddox and Brandon Morris both turned in scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh respectively.

The wins move WBU to 20-9 on the season, with a 4-4 mark in American Midwest Conference play.

The Eagles will look to complete the sweep of the Hornets in game three of the series tomorrow, Saturday, March 30.  First pitch is set for Noon from Stars Park in St. Louis, Mo.
