Jones Breaks Single-Season Home Run Record in Eagles Win Over Trojans

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/6/23) – Nick Jones added another record to his high-achieving career at Williams Baptist University, becoming the new single-season home run record holder in the Eagles' 11-1 win over Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday.

The fateful swing came in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Jones followed Tyrell Burnett's two-run bomb with a two-run shot of his own to put the Eagles up 11-0 over the Trojans.

Jones opened up scoring in the contest by adding to his RBI record by driving in Burnett on a single in the first inning, giving WBU a 1-0 lead.  Jacob Watkins followed with a two-run double into the left center gap to give the Eagles a 3-0 cushion after the first inning.

Brevin Carlisle rewarded the Eagles offense with a strong showing on the mound, allowing only three hits and no runs over his five innings of work.

Tyrell Burnett continued his big weekend with a two-run double in the third inning, helping WBU break the game open with a four spot.  Burnett added two hits, four RBIs, a home run, and a double to his weekend campaign.

Hannibal-LaGrange added a run in the seventh and loaded the bases to try to keep the game alive, but Jacob Eubanks worked out of the jam to preserve the run-rule victory in seven innings for the Eagles.

The win moves the Eagles to a 24-11 mark on the year, matching the win total from last season.  WBU also moves to a 7-5 record in American Midwest Conference play, good for fourth place in the league standings.

WBU will be back in action Tuesday, April 9 when the Eagles take on the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  First pitch of the doubleheader from Pine Bluff, Ark. is scheduled for noon.
