Eagles Fall to No. 10 Spartans in Doubleheader

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (4/12/23) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Friday to No. 10 Missouri Baptist by the final scores of 14-4 and 9-8.

Tyrell Burnett continues to swing a hot bat.  Burnett has now hit a home run in four straight contests following the doubleheader.

The nationally ranked Spartans took the advantage early in game one, taking the lead on a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Lawson Aaron responded with a solo shot of his own in the top of the second to cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of MBU.

Missouri Baptist remained steadfast in the contest, though, scoring five runs in the fourth and 6 in the fifth to take a 14-2 lead over WBU.

Tyrell Burnett homered in the top of the seventh to put two more Eagle runs on the scoreboard, but it would not be enough as Williams dropped game one 14-4.

The Spartans quickly took a 5-1 lead in game two through the first three innings.  The Eagles refused to roll over this time, though, plating four runs in the top half of the fourth inning, powered by a 3-run shot from Skylar Morrison to tie the game.

The two teams went back and forth with the Spartans taking one-run leads and WBU tying the game back up through the fifth and sixth.

The Eagles finally took the lead in the seventh inning with Jacob Watkins coming home on an error by the pitcher.

Two outs away from WBU earning a split on the day, Missouri Baptist found one more answer in the bottom of the ninth with a 2-run walk-off home run to sweep the doubleheader.

WBU will be back in action for game three of the series tomorrow at Noon in St. Louis, Mo.
