Burnett Sets Single-Season Home Run Record in Eagles Loss to Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (4/13/23) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game set against No. 10 ranked Missouri Baptist on Saturday by the final score of 11-1.

The lone Eagle run came on a solo home run from Tyrell Burnett in the top of the fourth inning.  With the home run, Tyrell Burnett takes over the single season home run record, previously held by teammate Nicholas Jones, with 11 home runs on the season.  Burnett's solo shot also marks his fifth straight game with a home run.

Missouri Baptist struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and struck with another two in the bottom of the third.

WBU responded with Burnett's homer in the fourth and held the game at a 4-1 mark through six innings.

The Spartans finally broke the game open in the bottom half of the seventh inning, plating six runs on four hits.  MBU found the final run of the game in the eighth to take a run-rule victory in the final game of the series.

Williams Baptist will look to bounce back on Monday in a regional rivalry game against Crowley's Ridge College.  The single nine inning game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. in Paragould, Ark.
