Eagles Score Ten in the Fourth to Overwhelm Pioneers

PARAGOULD, Ark. (4/16/23) – Powered by a ten-run fourth inning, the Williams Baptist University baseball team rolled over Crowley's Ridge by the final score of 14-4 on Tuesday.

Jacob Watkins turned in an impressive performance at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with four singles, a walk, and a hit by pitch while driving in two runs.

After Crowley's Ridge struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first, WBU stormed back to take the lead with a three spot in the second.

In the top of the fourth, the first seven WBU batters reached base.  Skylar Morrison drove home the first run of the inning with a bases loaded single, and Luis Febres kept the line moving by drawing a walk to force home the second run of the inning.

With the bases loaded, Lawson Aaron cashed in on the opportunity by smashing a grand slam over the center field fence to extend the Eagles lead to 9-2.

After the Pioneers responded with two straight outs, Watkins drove in WBU's seventh run of the inning with a single to right field.

Skylar Morrison drove in another run by drawing a bases loaded walk, and Luis Febres drove in the final two runs of the inning on a single up the middle.

After Skylar Morrison turned in a solid start on the mound, the Eagles bullpen kept the Pioneers offense at bay.  Brevin Carlisle, Thomas Frakes, Brandon Morris, and Alex Orman all threw one inning each, allowing only two runs over the final four innings to secure the run-rule victory.

The win moves the Eagles to a 25-14 mark on the season, surpassing the win total from the 2023 season.

WBU will be back in action on Friday, April 19 against William Woods with a doubleheader to kick off the final home series of the year.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. from Shell Field.
