Eagles Fall Short Against Owls in Doubleheader

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/19/23) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team dropped two close games in a doubleheader against William Woods by the final scores of 2-1 and 4-3.

Noah Willingham took the mound in game one.  Willingham threw his fifth complete game of the season, fanning eight Owls hitters in 7.0 innings of work, while allowing only one earned run on three hits.

The Owls struck first in the game with a run off of an Eagles error in the top of the third inning.  Woods extended its lead with an RBI-Single in the top of the fourth from Matt Hanson.

WBU got one back in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly from Jacob Watkins, but the offense failed to generate anything else as the Eagles fell 2-1 in the pitcher's duel.

The Eagles found the first run of game two when Seth Jones scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second.  WBU was gifted a second run when Gavin Mink scored on a balk in the bottom of the third.

After William Woods came back to tie the game with two in the top of the fourth, the Eagles took a 3-2 lead with a sacrifice fly from Luis Febres that drove in Lawson Aaron in the bottom half of the inning.

Woods came back up in the top of the fifth and took the lead back with another two spot.  Both offenses were silent the rest of the game, leading the Eagles to drop game two by the final score of 4-3.

Parker Jeffries tossed a complete game in game two, throwing all nine innings while striking out eight.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, April 20 for the final home game of the 2024 season against William Woods.  Senior Day festivities will begin around 11:25, with first pitch slated for Noon as the Eagles look to avoid the sweep.
