Offense Powers Eagles to Big Win on Senior Day

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/20/23) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team won its senior day matchup with William Woods University by the final score of 12-5 in the final home game of the 2024 season.

Eagles baseball started the day by honoring seniors Nicholas Jones, Chas Bell, Tate Isaacs, Drake Gravatt, Noah Willingham, Luis Febres, Zane Rainwater, Tyler Jones, and sports information student assistant Jarrett Harsson.

WBU wasted no time getting ahead in the ballgame with Luis Febres driving home Tyrell Burnett in the bottom of the first inning.  The Eagles took advantage of two Owls errors in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 3-0.

After William Woods got one run back in the top of the third, WBU five unanswered runs in the third and fourth to give the Eagles an 8-1 cushion.

Zane Rainwater provided an exclamation point in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double to left field that put the Eagles in double digits.

Pitcher Noah Willingham got an opportunity at the plate in the bottom of the seventh and made the most of it, providing the final run on the day for the Eagles with an RBI fielder's choice.

The Owls made noise in the ninth with a lead-off solo homer, but Jake Algee stood tall to shut Woods down to secure the senior day win.

Six Eagles pitchers got action on the mound in the contest.  Skylar Morrison started the ballgame, allowing only three runs in 4.1 IP.  Brevin Carlisle worked out of a jam in the fifth to earn the win in his two-thirds of an inning.  Jolby Jones, Tyler Jones, Noah Burns, and Jake Algee all had solid outings on the mound, allowing only four hits in the final four innings.

The Eagles will be back in action for the final series of the season against Central Baptist College on Thursday, April 25.  First pitch of the doubleheader on Thursday is scheduled for Noon in Conway, Ark.
