Eagles Split With Mustangs in Wednesday Doubleheader

CONWAY, Ark. (4/24/23) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team split its Wednesday doubleheader with Central Baptist by the final scores of 3-2 and 1-16.

In game one, Cody Jones got the Eagles on the board first in the second inning with an RBI single up the middle.

After CBC tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second, Nick Jones put the Eagles ahead again with a sac fly that plated Lawson Aaron in the top of the fourth.  Central Baptist tied the game once again in the bottom half of the inning with a run on a groundout.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jacob Watkins put the Eagles ahead again with a moonshot over the left-center field fence to make the score 3-2.

Watkins' solo shot proved to be the difference in game one as Parker Jeffries did not allow another Mustang run in the final two innings.

Jeffries added to his record-holding career win total with a seven inning complete game, allowing only two runs while fanning four Central Baptist hitters.

CBC answered big in game two, using a nine-run second inning to take the split on the day in a 16-1 win.

The lone WBU run came when Mason Andrews scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth inning.

The Eagles will look to take the series win in the final game of the regular season on Friday, April 26 in Conway, Ark.  First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM from Conway Christian High School.
