Jeffries Blanks Cougars, Eagles Advance to Day Three of AMC Tournament

O'FALLON, Mo. (5/1/23) – Parker Jeffries tossed a complete game shutout in the day two nightcap of the American Midwest Conference Tournament to power the Williams Baptist University baseball team to a 2-0 win over Columbia.

The Eagles (30-19, 9-12 AMC) advanced to an elimination matchup with two-seed Columbia College after a 9-6 win over Hannibal-LaGrange in the 10 AM game of day two.

Jeffries threw all nine innings for WBU on 128 pitches.  The Neelyville, Mo. native fanned seven Cougars and allowed only five hits to the No. 23 team in the nation.

The Eagles only runs came on a two-out, two-run single off the bat of Gavin Mink that drove in Tyrell Burnett and Cody Jones in the top of the second inning.

The win clinches WBU's first 30-win season since 2001, as well as the 150th win in the career of Head Coach Stephen Abanathy.

WBU will advance to an elimination game against in-state rival Central Baptist.  First pitch is scheduled for Noon from CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Mo.
