WBU Takes Down Panthers to Secure Series Sweep
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/8/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team downed Philander Smith 11-7 at Shell Field on Saturday morning to secure its sixth straight victory to start the season.
Skylar Morrison led WBU going 1-for-2 with three RBI's and three walks. Luke Bullins had three hits in four at-bats with an RBI and three runs scored, while Gavin Mink went 2-for-5 with two RBI's and a walk.
Parker Jeffries secured his second win of the season after six innings with eight strikeouts and only two runs.
Bullins put the Eagles on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, and Skylar Morrison followed with a two-run single.
Philander got two runs back in the top of the second, but WBU pushed the advantage back to three after a Nicholas Jones sac fly and a bases loaded walk to Morrison.
Bullins scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, then Mink drove in two more on a fielder's choice in the fifth before Lawson Aaron drove in Mink with a single.
The Eagles added two more in the sixth to push the lead to 11-2. Philander got three back in the seventh and two in the ninth, but Brevin Carlisle shut down the comeback bid in the ninth to secure the three-game sweep.
The win pushes WBU to 6-0 so far on the season. The 6 game win streak gets Williams off to its best start in program history.
The Eagles return to Shell Field on Friday, Feb. 14 for the first two of a four-game set against Trinity Christian. First pitch of game one against the Trolls is set for noon with game two to follow after.
