Eagles Split Series With William Woods

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/25/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team had to settle for a series split in a four-game set with William Woods on Tuesday after dropping the second doubleheader by the scores of 2-1 and 4-3.

The Eagles offense was stalled out in the first game of the doubleheader, mustering only two hits.  

William Woods got on the board first with an RBI double in the second.  WBU responded with a solo shot from Cody Jones to tie it up at one.  A sacrifice fly from William Woods put the Owls back on top in the fourth to give the owls the win in the pitching dual.

Coleton Payton took the loss after giving up the game-winning sac fly in the fourth.  Brevin Carlisle got the start on the mound, he gave up the game's only other run in 2.2 innings with only three hits.  Noah Burns tossed a scoreless inning and Jolby Jones threw three scoreless with only one hit.

After three scoreless innings to begin game one, William Woods got on the board first in the fourth with a two-run homer from Jacob McWhirter.

The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the frame with JD Burton scoring on a ground out and an RBI double from Connor Brinkley tying the game up at two.

William Woods took the lead in the seventh with an RBI single, then added one with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2 Owls.

Luke Bullins slugged a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning, but the Eagles fell short to lose 4-3.

Skylar Morrison took the game two loss to move to 1-1 on the year after throwing six innings with four runs and seven strikeouts.

The losses drop WBU to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in AMC play.  Next, WBU will travel to Paragould, Ark. to take on Crowley's Ridge in a four-game set on Feb. 28-Mar. 1.  First pitch on Friday, Feb. 28 is set for 11 a.m.
