WBU Offense Explodes for Doubleheader Sweep of Pioneers

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/28/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team erupted for 32 runs across two games to sweep Crowley's Ridge in a doubleheader by the final scores of 20-6 and 12-4. 

Jacob Watkins led the way at the plate in game one at 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run.  Watkins set a new WBU record with eight RBI's in a single game.

Cody Jones went 2-for-4 on a double and a home run with three RBI's.  Nicholas Jones also had two RBI's on a 2-for-4 line.  WBU tallied a total of 20 hits in the victory.

Watkins began the scoring with a double in the top of the first that plated Tyrell Burnett.  Singles from Lawson Aaron and Mari Thomas added two more runs in the inning.

The Eagles plated eight runs in the third to take a 9-1 lead.  The Pioneers broke out for five runs to cut the lead to three. 

Williams scored nine runs across the final four innings to win 20-6.  A three-run homer from Jacob Watkins in the top of the seventh gave the WBU its 20th run on the day.

Parker Jeffries tossed four innings to secure his fourth win of the season.  Cooper Thomas, Jackson Finder, and Jacob Eubanks combined for a scoreless final three innings.

WBU won game two of the doubleheader 12-4.  Nicholas Jones and Gavin Mink each drove in three runs while Watkins added two more RBI's.  

Mink singled in the first to start scoring off in game two.  Jones went yard in the second to add two more, and Luke Bullins homered to make it 4-0 in the second.  The Eagles added three more in the fourth and one more in the fifth to go up 8-0.

The Pioneers fought back with four in the sixth, but the Eagles got back out in front with four in the seventh powered by a two-run shot by Cody Jones to take the game 12-4.

Nash Koczka went five scoreless innings with nine punchouts to take his fourth win of the season.

The wins move WBU to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in AMC play.  The Eagles will look to win the series on Saturday, Mar. 1 with two more games against the Pioneers in Paragould, Ark.  First pitch of game one is set for 11 a.m. from Pioneer Park.
