Eagles Fall to Cougars in Friday Doubleheader

COLUMBIA, Mo. (3/7/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team fell in its first two games of the weekend against Columbia by the final scores of 12-4 and 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Nicholas Jones led the way at the plate in game one, going 1-for-3 with three RBI's and a run scored. 

Columbia struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning.  The Cougars added four in the third one in the fourth, and five in the fifth to take an 11-0 lead through five innings.

The Eagles only runs came in the top of the sixth inning.  Jacob Watkins singled to right to bring home Tyrell Burnett before Nicholas Jones swung for a three-run homer to cut the Cougar lead to 11-4.

Columbia added one more run in the bottom of the sixth and held the Eagles scoreless to take the win. 

In game two, Columbia jumped in front early on a three-run home run in the bottom of the first.

Jones smashed his second homer of the day to cut the lead to 3-1 in the second, then Gavin Mink brought home Cody Jones on an RBI triple to make it a one-run game.

The Cougars responded with a two-run blast from Brayden McGinnis in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 5-2.  CC added two more runs in the fourth to take the 7-2 win.

The losses drop WBU to 12-6 overall and 5-5 in AMC play.  Williams will have an opportunity to tie the series with two more games on Saturday, Mar. 8 in Columbia, Mo.  First pitch of game three against the Cougars is set for 1 p.m.
