Jeffries, Watkins Shine in Doubleheader Sweep of Harris-Stowe
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/13/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team took the first two games of a four-game set with Harris-Stowe by the final scores of 8-0 and 3-2 on Thursday afternoon from Shell Field.
Jacob Watkins led the way at the plate for WBU, going 5-for-8 with 3 RBI's across both games. Lawson Aaron also hit well, as the sophomore went 4-for-7 with four RBI's across the two games.
Parker Jeffries dominated on the mound in game one with his first complete game shutout of the season. Jeffries tossed seven innings with seven strikeouts to only three hits.
Watkins put the Eagles ahead early in the contest with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. WBU added two more in the second, then three more in the third including a two-run single from Lawson Aaron to go up 6-0 after three.
The Eagles collected 13 hits in the ballgame to win game one of the series 8-0.
Harris-Stowe jumped out to an early lead in game two with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. WBU responded with an RBI single off the bat of Luke Bullins in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
Williams took its first lead of the game on a Lawson Aaron single in the third. HSSU's Skywalker Mann drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game with one out in the fourth, but Nash Koczka punched out the final two hitters to keep the score even at 2-2.
Jackson Finder came on in relief of Koczka. Finder tossed three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Finder struck out the side in the sixth to keep the game knotted up.
Harris-Stowe threatened to take the lead in the top of the seventh with the go-ahead run on third with two outs, but Finder caught the pinch hitter looking to shut down the Hornet rally.
In the bottom half of the seventh inning, Luke Bullins reached on an error with one out. Kaeden Kennedy and Tyrell Burnett were both hit by pitches to load the bases.
With the winning run 90 feet away and two outs, Jacob Watkins shot a ball into right field to take the second win of the series 3-2.
The Eagles improve their record to 14-8 overall and 7-7 in AMC play. WBU will go for a series win on Friday, Mar. 14 with two more games against Harris-Stowe. First pitch of game one is set for 10 a.m. from Shell Field.
