Eagles Take Series Win in Saturday Split With Trojans

HANNIBAL, Mo. (3/22/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team split the final two games of a four-game series with Hannibal LaGrange on Saturday by the final scores of 13-2 and 6-5.

Tyrell Burnett and Luke Bullins each drove in three runs in the game one victory.

Burnett got the Eagles on the board first with a two-run home run to center in the top of the second.  Bullins and Cody Jones added on with RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-0.

After HLGU got a run back in the fourth, the Eagles scored eight runs in the top of the sixth to secure the victory, and the series win.  

Nash Koczka went 6.0 innings for the Eagles with 10 strikeouts while only allowing two runs.  Connor Brinkley shut the Trojans down in relief, striking out two in his one inning of work.

WBU got out to another quick lead in the second game courtesy of an RBI single from Jacob Watkins in the top of the first.

The score remained 1-0 until Gavin Mink drove in a run on a single to double the lead in the fifth inning.  Nicholas Jones added another score on a sac fly later in the frame to put Williams up 3-0.

Tyrell Burnett and Luke Bullins hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead, but the Trojans responded with a five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth to tie the contest.

HLGU went on to win in walk-off fashion to avoid the sweep by the final score of 6-5..

The Eagles move to 18-10 overall and 11-9 in AMC play.  WBU will return home for a midweek matchup with Maranatha Baptist on Wednesday, Mar. 26.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Shell Field.
