ST. LOUIS, Mo. (3/28/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team fell in the first two games of a four-game series against No. 23 Missouri Baptist by the final scores of 3-0 and 8-1 at Spartan Field on Friday afternoon.
Reigning AMC Pitcher of the Week Nash Koczka led the way for WBU in game one, striking out six and allowing only three runs in a complete game effort.
Missouri Baptist opened up scoring in the bottom of the third with Cole Robinson bringing home a run on an RBI single, then added another later in the frame on a sacrifice fly to go up by two. MBU added one more insurance run in the fourth on an RBI double to take a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles were unable to push any runs across against MBU's ace. Williams went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position as a team in the contest.
Gavin Mink and Luke Bullins each collected two hits in the ballgame.
The Spartans ambushed Eagles pitching early in game two, posting six runs in the first inning to take a quick lead. MBU added runs in the second and third to take an eight run advantage through three innings.
The lone Eagle run came on a sacrifice fly from Jacob Watkins in the top half of the fifth inning. Brett Cyprien led the way for the Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
The losses drop WBU to 20-12 overall and 11-11 in American Midwest Conference play. The Eagles will face MBU again on Saturday, Mar. 29 for the final two games of the series. First pitch is set for noon from Spartan Field in St. Louis, Mo.
