Eagles Defeat Hornets

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Williams men's basketball team defeated the Harris-Stowe State Hornets 74-70 on Thursday night. With the win the Eagles are 14-9 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, but the Hornets quickly clawed their way back into the game and took their own lead with 12:27 left in the first half. They pushed their lead out to as many as six, but the Eagles were able to come back and tie it with five minutes left in the first half. Williams went into the locker rooms with a one-point lead at halftime. The second half saw the Eagles maintaining the lead for the entire half, but that Hornets had multiple chances to cut into the lead or even tie the game that they were unable to take advantage of. 

Williams shot 46% from the field (26-56), 25% from the three-point line (3-12), and 61% from the free-throw line (19-31). 

Cortez King led all scorers with 26 points. TJ Clardy was the only other Eagle in double figures, as he finished with 10 points. 

King alos led the team on the boards with eight, while Jaymes Jackson had seven.

The Eagles hit the road on Monday, Feb. 14 to Hannibal, Mo. for a matchup with the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
