NASHVILLE, Tenn. (11/9/23) - The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team won its first road contest of the year against Welch College by the score of 83-78.
Ben Keton led the Eagles in points with 25 on the night, shooting 9-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Tevin Tate also had a big night for Williams and recorded his first double-double for the Eagles with 13 points and 10 assists. T.J. Clardy also recorded a double-double, with 14 points and 10 boards.
Williams shot 50.0 percent from the field as a team, and 46.7 percent from three as a team, white Welch shot 44.1 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles out-rebounded the Flames 52-23.
The game was close throughout all 40 minutes. The Eagles held a 35-34 lead at halftime after a Keton three ball broke a late tie in the first half.
The two teams would continue to battle until the very end, until five points from Ben Keton iced the game with less than a minute left to give the Eagles an 83-78 victory.
The Eagles will come back home to host Crowley's Ridge College on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
