Second Half Surge Powers Eagles Over Phantoms

CHICAGO, Ill. (11/17/23) - The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team defeated East West University 76-60 on Friday night.

The Eagles had four players score in double digits against the Phantoms.  Duke Hardin led the team with 18 points, TJ Clardy had 16, Tevin Tate recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Jayvon Clark finished with 14 points.

The Eagles shot 42.1 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from three-point range.  WBU won the rebound battle 40-28.  The Eagles knocked 72.4 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe, while East West managed to make just 58.3 percent of its attempts.

Scoring started slow for both teams in the first half.  Tevin Tate scored the first bucket for the Eagles, followed by a 3 pointer by Jayvon Clark.  The Phantoms would knock down a free throw to make the score 5-1 and it would stay that way for four minutes.

The Phantoms fought back and took the lead going into the half by the score of 35-34 thanks to 18 first half points from East West's Jaha Jackson.

The game would stay close into the second half until the Eagles rattled off a 12-0 run capped off by a Hardin and one to give the Eagles a 65-50 lead with four minutes left.  The game would not get much closer as a Clardy layup brought the final score to 76-60 in favor of WBU.

Next, the Eagles will turn around to face Moody Bible Institute tomorrow, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. from Chicago Ill.
