Eagles Knock Down 18 3-Pointers in Route to Win Over Haskell

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (12/9/23)  – The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team secured a record-setting win on the road against Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 98-89.

The Eagles made 18, 3-point field goals in the game, narrowly missing the school record of 20 set back in 2018.

Eight of those three-pointers came from Ben Keton, who led the team with 26 points in the win.  Duke Hardin also added 21 points, nine of them coming from beyond the arc.  TJ Clardy and Ben Keton both led the team in rebounds with six, and Clardy led the team in assists with five.

As a team the Eagles shot 56.9 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three-point range.  WBU scored 25 points off turnovers, and never trailed in the ball game.

WBU started the game off going 3-for-3 on three-point attempts with two buckets from Ben Keton and one from Duke Hardin.  The Eagles quickly forced a Haskell timeout after going up 9-5 in the first minute and a half.  Keton would stay hot from downtown, knocking down five more deep shots to put the Eagles up 58-38 at halftime.

WBU would claim its largest lead of the day with 13:09 left in the second half after a DJ Townsend three-pointer put the Eagles up by 22.  Haskell would fight back late, bringing the game as close as six points after a Trey Gaines free throw made the score 82-76 with 5:36 to go in the game, but the Eagles would go on an 8-0 run to shut the door and take the road win.

The Eagles return to action Saturday, Dec. 16 against Ecclesia College at 3 PM in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
