Eagles Snap Five Game Skid With Win Over Trojans

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/13/24) - The Williams Baptist men's basketball team snapped a five game losing streak with a conference win over Hannibal-LaGrange University by the score of 75-63.

T.J. Clardy led the team with 17 points while adding four assists.  Ben Keton and Tevin Tate both led the way with seven rebounds each, and D.J. Townsend led the team in assists with five.

After struggling on offense in the first half, the Eagles came out of the locker room and shot 63 percent from the field, including a red hot 88.9 percent from the three-point line.

Keton gave the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon with a fall away 3-pointer from the corner to go up 40-39 with 15:27 left in the contest. Townsend followed with a layup and T.J. Clardy hit a 3-pointer of his own to cap an 8-0 run. The Eagles never trailed in the contest after that point.

WBU rode the momentum of that run all the way to the final buzzer. After finding a rhythm, the Eagles out-rebounded the Trojans 19-9 and out-scored HLGU 49-30 in the second half.

Both teams started slow, as the contest did not see its first bucket until almost three minutes into the game.  HLGU found a 13-1 run capped off by a Nick Gutierrez with 11:05 left in the first half to take the momentum. The Trojans went into halftime with a 33-26 lead.

With the victory, WBU picks up its first AMC win on the season, moving the team's conference record to 1-3, and 9-6 overall.

The Eagles will be back in action on the road to finish out non-conference play against Ecclesia College in Springdale, Ark on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 P.M.
