WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (10/31/24) – The Williams Baptist men's basketball team took its first win of the season against Trinity College of Florida 75-52 on Thursday afternoon in a neutral site game in Pensacola, Fla.
Eli Cofield led all scorers with 16 points off the bench for WBU, paired with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Charles Brown Jr. also had a double-double for the Eagles with 11 points and 12 boards. DJ Townsend and Trahe Qualls both finished in the double digits in points with 12 each.
As a team, WBU shot 43.8 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from three-point range. WBU dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Trinity 51-27. Williams also scored 44 of its points in the paint.
The Eagles took control of the ballgame with a 14-7 run in the first half led by six points from Aiden Berry to take a 25-24 lead into halftime.
The Tigers stayed within 10 points of WBU throughout the second half until rattled off a 15-0 run with seven minutes left led by Townsend to put the game on ice. Williams never led by less than eight in the second half to take home its first win of the season, 75-52.
Next, the Eagles will open the season at home on Saturday, Nov. 9 against Ecclesia for Homecoming. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center on the campus of Williams Baptist University.
