Eagles Dominate in AMC Tournament Quarterfinal

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/4/23) - The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team prevailed in the quarterfinal round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament over The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy by the final score of 10-1.

The Eagles offense got the scoring started in just the sixth minute of the match, when Joao Baretto scored his first of four goals on the day with an assist from Joao Costa.  Two minutes later, Jacobo Obradors would add to his school record goal tally with an assist from Joao Baretto to put the Eagles up 2-0 early.

AMC Player of the Year Hugo Gil found an unassisted goal in the 17th minute to bring the Eagles lead to three.

Joao Baretto found his second goal of the day in the 30th minute, putting the Eagles up by four.

The lone Eutectics goal came in the 33rd minute from Jacob Woodard after a misplay by the Eagles defense.

Joao Costa (Joao Baretto) would respond to the Eutectics with a goal in the 37th minute to put the Eagles back up by four.

The Eagles would go on to put up five scores in the second half.  Joao Baretto added his third and fourth goals on the day in the 58th and 59th minutes.  Jacobo Obradors would find one more goal with an assist from Jacob Doehman to put WBU up 8-1. 

Arthur Ferreira would find an unassisted tally in the 86th minute to bring the score to 9-1.

The exclamation point would come off the unassisted foot of Axel Vilegas Domingues in the 90th minute to set the final score at 10-1.

Williams outshot the Eutectics 33-8, with 15 on goal.

Rodrigo Pina played all 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles, recording two saves.

WBU will move on to the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference tournament.  The Eagles will face the winner of the quarterfinal match of William Woods University on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the WBU Soccer Field.
