Gil Named AMC Player of the Year; Kennedy Tabbed as Coach of the Year

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/4/23) - Hugo Gil was named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Year and head coach Carl Kennedy was tabbed as the Coach of the Year as the American Midwest Conference announced its postseason awards Saturday morning.

Gil joins former Eagle Lucas Camilo as the only WBU players to be named AMC Player of the Year.  He racked up 10 assists over the course of the regular season, as well as one goal.

Rodrigo Pina, Axel Vilegas Domingues, Alfonso Madrigal, and Jacobo Obradors were all named to the All-Conference First Team.  Fernando Paya earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention. Paya was also named to the AMC Champions of Character Team.

Coach Kennedy was named AMC Coach of the Year after leading Eagles to nine wins and an AMC regular season title in his first year at the helm of the program.

In addition, five Eagles were named to the AMC Academic All-Conference team. Andre Akabane, Beau Burbank, Fernando Silvestre Paya, Gabriele Giommo and Madrigal all earned the honors. 

To be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors, student-athletes must be in their second semester at their AMC institution, have at least a 3.0 GPA and finish the year on the team.
