WBU Takes First Win of the Season Against TAMUT

TEXARKANA, Tex. (8/27/24) – The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team took home its first win of the 2024 campaign with a 3-0 victory over Texas A&M - Texarkana on Tuesday night.

The two defenses held up in the first half, keeping the game scoreless through the first 40 minutes of the match.

WBU finally broke through with its first goal of the season when Adrian Briceno drove the ball into the bottom left corner of the net in the 43rd minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Out of the intermission, Dawson Sawyer found the goal to put the Eagles up 2-0 in the 56th minute.  

Lucas Belinello added another second half goal in the 66th with a beautiful flick off a throw-in to push the WBU advantage to 3-0.

WBU out-shot TAMUT 12-0, with eight shots on goal.  

Rodrigo Pina collected his fifth career shutout in the win, playing 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles.  

Williams will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 2 taking on Mid-America Christian.  Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. in Oklahoma City, Okla.
