Eagles Draw in Defensive Battle With Blue Mountain

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (9/6/24) – The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team tied 1-1 with Blue Mountain Christian in a non-conference home matchup on Friday afternoon.

The match was a tough defensive battle the whole way through, with both sides only combining for 16 shots and five on goal.

Blue Mountain tallied the only shot between the two teams in the first half.  It went wide right, and the Eagles and Toppers went into the locker room at 0-0.

Jacobo Obradors put the first shot on goal for the eagles in the 50th minute, which was saved by the Blue Mountain keeper.

Kyreon Daws and Jacobo Obradors both put up two shots that were blocked by the Blue Mountain defense before a lightning delay forced the teams back into the locker room for 39 minutes.

After the reset, reigning American Midwest Conference Player of the Year Hugo Gil struck for his first goal of the young season thanks to an assist from Mateus Ribeiro and Lucas Mahlow to put the Eagles up 1-0.

The Blue Mountain offense finally got its chance in the 87th minute and did not waste it, tying the game at 1-1.

Lucas Belinello attempted a shot in the final minute of the game, but it was blocked and the Eagles took the draw with BMC.

The Eagles record on the season drops to 2-1-2.  Williams will take on a four game roadstand to wrap up non-conference play.

The first of that four will come against LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday, September 10.  Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Shreveport, La.
