WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (10/5/24) – The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team lost its first match of the American Midwest Conference schedule against Missouri Baptist by the final score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles out-shot the Spartans 24-12, and placed 13 on goal.
WBU wasted no time getting on the board first after a pass from Jacobo Obradors found Lucas Belinello wide open for the score.
The Eagles struck again when Obradors broke free for an unassisted score in the 26th minute for his 15th of the season that pushed the lead to 2-0.
Missouri Baptist got one back on a penalty shot in the 41st minute, but the Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Spartans were able to equalize in the 66th minute with another penalty shot, then scored again on an unassisted breakaway score in the 78th to go up 3-2.
The Eagles had a late chance to equalize in the 86th minute, but Colin Haupt's shot found the post and was cleared away. Hugo Gil also had a big opportunity, but his header sailed just right of the goal, and the Eagles fell 3-2.
The loss drops the Eagles to 4-2-4 on the season, and 0-1 in AMC play. The team will regroup and look to bounce back on the road against William Woods on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. from Fulton, Mo.
