WBU Drops Road Match to Owls

FULTON, Mo. (10/12/24) – The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team fell on the road to William Woods by the score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Hugo Gil led the team in shots with two, both of which landed on goal.  The Eagles had eight shots on the day as a team.

Gil looked to break the scoreless tie early with a shot in the 5th minute of the match that was saved on an incredible effort by the Owls' keeper.  Gil almost struck for a score again in the 20th, but his shot was once again turned away.

Both teams put up four shots and two on goal in the first half, but Woods broke the tie in the 24th minute with a score from Pedro Salmon to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

The Owls added on to the lead in the 69th minute with a goal from Lubos Polacko.  WBU was outshot 10-4 in the second half, and landed none on target.

Rodrigo Pina played all 90 minutes between the posts for WBU, securing four saves.

The loss drops the Eagles to 0-2 in AMC play and 4-3-4 overall.  Williams will be back in action Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Springfield, Mo. against Mission.  Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
