Eagles Fall in AMC Semifinal After Penalty Shootout

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (11/9/24) – The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team fell to Missouri Baptist in the semifinal round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament after a scoreless 110 minutes ended in a 4-2 penalty shootout on Saturday night.

Williams outshot the Spartans 14-10 on the night, landing four on goal.

The Eagles first opportunity came from Mateus Ribeiro in the 30th minute when he put a shot on goal that was saved by the Missouri Baptist keeper.  He put another shot on target in the 36th but was again denied by the Spartans backstop.

Matheus Farias put up the Eagles only shot on target in the second half, which was saved in the 84th minute.

Ignacio Jansen had a chance to end the game for the Eagles in the first overtime period, but the shot was again stopped by the Spartan keeper.

In the penalty shootout, MBU went up 2-0 after the first two attempts and never looked back.  Missouri Baptist clinched a spot in the AMC Tournament Championship after Ognjen Bozovic made the final penalty kick.

Rodrigo Pina played all 90 minutes in goal for WBU.  He made two saves in two attempts

The Eagles finish with an overall record of 11-3-5, marking the third straight season with 10 or more wins.
