WBU Swim Team Competes in Hendrix Relays & Classic

CONWAY, Ark. (10/30/23)  – The Williams Baptist University men's and women's swim teams competed in two competitions over the weekend on the campus of Hendrix University taking part in the Hendrix Relays and the Hendrix Classic.

In the Relays on Friday, both the men's and women's teams placed second, with the men compiling 168 points in their competition and the women scoring 94 points. In Saturday's Classic competition, both squads finished third with the men earning 116 points and the women finishing with 114 points.

In Friday's competition Hanna Rushin finished second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:50.18 and she also finished third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:19.21. Lizzy Broussard turned in a time of 1:11.73 in the 100 yard butterfly for a third place finish, also added a fourth place finish in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:14.32.

Kyla Bethel finished in the yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.51, while also finishing ninth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.18.

On the men's side, Eric Burns finished second in the 200 yard freestyle after a race of 2:02.16, while Keegan Naegeli was fourth in the 200 yard freestyle (2:34.40). Hayden Woodring finished in the 100 yard butterfly (58.03) and seventh in the individual medley (1:03.59).

Esteban Gonzalez was sixth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:28.31) and seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.15), while Nathanael Adams was fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:45.82) and thirteenth in the 50 freestyle (29.34).

Jakob Presley was eighth in the 100 freestyle (1:16.55) and 15th in the 50 free (35.32), while Wesley Watkins was ninth in the 100 freestyle (1:17.06) and 14th in the 50 freestyle (32.75).

In Saturday's classic, Broussard was fourth in the 500 freestyle (6:33.34), fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:06.78) and fifth in the 1000 freestyle (13:33.90), while Rushin finished fifth in the 100 freestyle (1:19.03) and ninth in the 200 freestyle (2:48.46). Bethell was fifth in the 100 freestyle (1:08.60), sixth in the 50 freestyle (29.42) and fifth in the 200 breaststroke (3:02.21). 

Woodring was sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:17.11), sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:28.99) and 11th in the 50 freestyle (24.23). Burns finished seventh in the 1000 freestyle (12:30.52), ninth in the 500 freestyle (6:01.79) and 14th in the 200 butterfly (55.29).

Gonzalez was 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:15.18), 16th in the 50 freestyle (27.56) and 18th in the 200 butterfly (1:02.36). Naegeli was 12th in the 200 freestyle (2:35.07), 11th in the 200 individual medley (2:54.25) and 20th in the 200 butterfly (1:07.86).

Adams was 13th in the 200 freestyle (2:46.40), 17th in the 50 freestyle (30.65) and 21st in the 200 butterfly (1:14.96). Presley was 14th in the 200 freestyle (2:57.95), 19th in the 50 freestyle (38.96), and 23rd in the 200 butterfly (1:24.55). Wesley Watkins rounded out the day for Williams by finishing 15th in the 200 freestyle (3:08.82), 18th in the 50 freestyle (35.07) and 22nd in the 200 butterfly (1:19.88).
