WBU Track and Field Opens Indoor Season

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (1/14/24) - The Williams Baptist University men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their 2024 season at the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Southeast Missouri State over the weekend.

In the men's 200-meter run Byron Lewis turned in a time of 25.71 (18th), while teammate Ty Gramling was right behind him with a finish of 25.87 (19th). Lamont Evans was 21st after running the race in 26.69, while Jason Detrick was 22nd (29.39).

In the men's 400-meter run Detrick finished 12th (1:03.69), while Gramling turned in a 10 place finish in the triple jump 11.37m (37'3.75") and 12th place finish in the long jump with a lead of 5.85m (19'2.50"). 

In the shot put, Tucker Coleman was 17th after a toss of 12.49m (40'11.75"), followed by Jacob Short in 21st (12.15m-39'10.50"). Cody Carden also turned in a throw of 7.79m (25'6.75") to round out the day for WBU. In the weight throw, Coleman was 14th (13.81m-45'3.75"), while Short was 17th (13.24m-43'5.25").

In the women's competition Zaelin Morris finished 16th in the women's 200-meter run with a time of 31.11, while Madison Mittag was 18th (34.16). Mittag also finished 10th in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:15.40.

Mikey Larson finished the 800-meter run in a time of 2:46.00 (11th) and also competed in the mile run, finishing the race in 6:07.46 (11th).

In the long jump Dayshia Espinoza-Ford finished 17th with a jump of 3.38m (11'1.25"), while Allyson Marlow was sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.07m (33'0.50"). Calista Christian was 21st in the shot put with a throw of 9.10m (29'10.25"), while Kady Greer was 22nd after tossing the rock 7.75m (25'5.25"). Christian also finished 12th in the weight throw with a throw of 12.01m (39'5"), while Greer rounded out the day to 19th (9.13m-29'11.50") in the competition.

Williams will return to action Jan. 21 at the 2024 KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
