WBU Wrestling Competes at Viking Open

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/13/23) - The WIlliams Baptist University wrestling team competed in its second competition of the season by taking part in the Viking Open over the weekend with several wrestlers earning top honors in the event.

Kendric Gordon made the finals in the 184 weight class after earning victories over Chris Miller (Northeast Oklahoma) (Fall 3:46) and Gabe Chesboro (University of St. Mary) (Dec 10-7) to advance to the finals. 

Jonathan Vizcarrondo went 2-1 on the day in the 165 weight class with victories over Gabriel Sheikh (University of the Ozarks) (Dec 12-11) and Julius Alfaro (Northeast Oklahoma) (Dec 6-4) before losing to Clay Giddens-Buttram (Unattached) (Dec 7-0) in the semifinals.

Alzarius Boykins wrestled in the 157 weight and went 2-1, which included a victory over Central Baptist College's Kyle Bahl in 33 seconds. His other victory was over Hunter Jennings (Neosho) (Dec 8-4).

Johnny Baldwin went 2-2 in the 141 weight class with wins over Gabe Aldaco (Carl Albert State) (TF 17-2) and Ryder Ramsey (Central Oklahoma) (FF), while Micah Oltmanns earned a win at 184 with a victory over Tadereo Thomas (Carl Albert State) (Fall 0:20)

In the 141 weight class Izaiah Vizcarrondo went 1-2 on the day with a win over conference opponent Vincent Sandoval (Wayland Baptist University) (Maj 15-1).

Jakob Wilcox earned a victory in the 174 weight class after defeating Liam Selhorst (Lyon College) (Dec 8-5).

The Eagles will next compete at the Life University Open on Nov. 18.
