Lady Eagles Split Friday Series With Graceland

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist softball team dropped their first game against Graceland 6-5 on Friday afternoon and rallied to win the second game 3-0.

Game One

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first after Alyssa Cordell (SO/Bentonville, Ark.) hit a three-run bomb over the right field fence. Graceland would respond with two runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-3 lead. The Lady Eagles would come back to tie it in the bottom of the third when Kaydra Cole (JR/Paragould, Ark.) scored off a Kennedy Johnson (FR/Forney, Texas) RBI single. They would take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth off a Maggie Crossno (SR/Senath, Mo.) solo shot over the center field wall. Graceland would come back and tie it in the top of the sixth and then take the lead in the top of the seventh to win the game.

Cordell was 2-3 in the game with 3 RBI. Crossno and Johnson also had 1 RBI each.

Angel Gillette (SO/Spring, Texas) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up six runs off eleven hits, striking out ten and walking one.

Game Two

Again the Lady Eagles would jump out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first, this time off a Johnson two-run shot over the center field wall. They would score again in the fourth after Chasity Gandy (SR/Greenbrier, Ark.) scored on a Shelby Jones (SO/Ravenna, Texas) RBI double. Graceland would get a few baserunners in the top of the fifth, but Tess Temple (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.) induced a ground out to end the inning. The game was called after playing the top of the sixth inning due to darkness.

Jones went 3-3 in the game with one RBI, while Johnson had 2 RBI in the game.

Temple pitched 6.0 innings giving up seven hits and striking out four.
