Lady Eagles Sweep Graceland in Saturday Series

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Lady Eagles found their offense on Saturday as they swept their Graceland Yellowjackets, winning 3-0 and 15-8.

Game One

The first game didnt see much offense until the bottom of the third when Hail Williams scored off a Shelby Jones (SO/Ravenna, Texas) RBI single. Jones would come around to score in the next at bat after Weis reached first on a error by the pitcher.

The third run for the Lady Eagles came in the bottom of the fifth when Kennedy Johnson (FR/Forney, Texas) singled to center and advanced to second on an error by the centerfielder. Camryn Martin (SR/Marion, Ark.) came in to pinch run for her and moved to third after an Alyssa Cordell (SO/Bentonville, Ark.) single. Martin scored off a Maggie Crossno (SR/Senath, Mo.) RBI single.

The Yellojackets tried to get a one-out rally going in the top of the seventh after a double and single to put runners on the corners, but Cassidi Doyle (JR/Josephine, Texas) was able to get a strikeout and a groundout to end the game.

Jones and Crossno led the Eagles with one RBI each. Jones went 2-4 in the game, Johnson and Cordell both went 2-3, while Crossno was 1-2.

Doyle pitched a complete game shutout, giving up five hits, walking one and striking out eleven.

Game Two

The second game started off with a bang as Graceland hit a grand slam and a two-run homerun in the inning to go up 6-0. The Lady Eagles would respond in the bottom half of the frame with seven runs of their own all with two outs. Johnson got it started with a single, then Cordell and Macy Carter (JR/Paragould, Ark.) walked, then Crossno hit a 2-RBI double, then Kayla Spray (SO/Detroit, Texas) hit a 2-RBI double. Spray was able to advance to third and then score on back-to-back wild pitches, then Chasity Gandy (SR/Greenbrier, Ark.) and Williams walked, then Jones hit a 2-RBI triple.

The next two innings were quiet and then the Yellowjackets scored two runs in the fourth to take a 8-7 lead, but, once again, the Lady Eagles would respond in the bottom of the frame as they scored four runs to retake the lead. Cordell and Carter got the inning started with back-to-back singles. After the two stole second and third, Martin came in to run for Carter. Then Crossno hit a 2-RBI single, Spray hit a bunt single, Gandy hit an RBI single, and Williams hit an RBI groundout to second.

Williams plated two more in the fifth when pinch runner Laila Byas (FR/Cleveland, Miss.) scored off a Carter RBI single and then Cordell scored off a sac fly to center from Spray.

To finish off the scoring, the Lady Eagles plated two in the sixth off back-to-back RBI doubles from Johnson and Cordell.

Crossno led the team with four RBIs, while Spray had three, Jones had two, and Johnson, Carter, Gandy, Williams, and Cordell all had one.

Jillian Hunter (SO/Covington, Tenn.) started the game and pitched 3.0 innings, giving up six runs off seven hits, walking two and striking out three. Angel Gillette (SO/Spring, Texas) came in in relief and got the win. She pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two runs off two hits and striking out one. Tess Temple (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.) then came in and pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.
