Lady Eagles Begin AMC Play With Sweep of Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. - Williams Baptist softball starts off American Midwest Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of the Lyon Scots. The Lady Eagles won game one 6-3 and game two 7-1.

Game One

The game was pretty quiet for both teams offensively until the bottom of the fifth inning when Lyon plated three runs, but the Lady Eagles responded with four of their own in the top of the sixth. Alyssa Cordell (SO/Bentonville, Ark.) got things going with a solo homerun over the left field fence. Then Kennedy Johnson (FR/Forney, Texas) was walked and Maggie Crossno (SR/Senath, Mo.) hit a single to put two on for Macy Carter (JR/Paragould, Ark.) who hit a RBI single to score the pinch runner Camryn Martin (SR/Marion, Ark.). Then Chasity Gandy (SR/Greenbrier, Ark.) hit a 2-RBI single to plate Crossno and Carter. The Lady Eagles weren't done yet, as they plated two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Cordell walked and then Johnson hit a 2-run bomb over the left field fence.

Cordell went 2-4 in the game with one RBI and scoring two runs, while Johnson and Gandy each had 2 RBIs.

Cassidi Doyle (JR/Josephine, Texas) pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles. She gave up three runs off four hits, walked five and struck out nine.

Game Two

The offensive kept going in game two. In the top of the third, Hali Williams (JR/Bells, Texas) scored on a RBI triple from Megan Weis (FR/Republic, Mo.). In the fifth inning, Johnson hit a RBI single, Kaydra Cole (JR/Paragould, Ark.) hit a RBI double and came around to score on an error, and Macy Carter hit a RBI single to plate four runs in the inning. In the seventh, Cordell doubled to lead off the inning. She was lifted for pinch runner Martin who came around to score on Cole's RBI double. Then Cole was lifted for pinch runner Laila Byas (FR/Cleveland, Miss.) who advanced to third and then scored on two different wild pitches.

The Scots tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but were only able to get one run.

Cole went 2-3 in the game with 2 RBIs to lead the team.

Tess Temple (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.) pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles. She gave up one earned run off four hits and struck out five.
