Lady Eagles Split With William Woods

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist Lady Eagles softball team split the Saturday series with William Woods. The Lady Eagles lost the first game 11-1 in five innings and won the second game 9-1 in five innings. The Lady Eagles are now 11-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Game One

The Owls had the bats going in the first game as they had 11 hits and 11 runs, including five homeruns. The lone Lady Eagles run came in the fourth inning when Alyssa Cordell (SO/Bentonville, Ark.) scored on Madison Knight (FR/Albany, La.)'s RBI single.

Shelby Jones (SO/Ravenna, Texas) went 2-3 in the game to lead the team, while Knight went 1-3 with one RBI.

Angel Gillette (SO/Spring, Texas) got the start in the circle and pitched 2.2 innings. She gave up eight runs off six hits, walked two and struck out three. Tess Temple (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.) pitched 2.1 innings in relief. She gave up three runs off five hits, walked two and struck out two.

Game Two

The Lady Eagles were much better offensively in the second game as they had nine runs off eight hits.

The Owls scored one run in the first, but the Lady Eagles responded with six runs in the bottom half of the frame. Jones and Megan Weis (FR/Republic, Mo.) were walked to start the game, Cordell singled and Jones scored. Then Kennedy Johnson (FR/Forney, Texas) smashed a three-run homerun over the center field wall. Kaydra Cole (JR/Paragould, Ark.) was then walked and Maggie Crossno (SR/Senath, Mo.) hit a 2-run homerun over the the center field wall.

The Lady Eagles added two runs in the fourth when Johnson hit a 2-RBI double.

Finally, the Lady Eagles scored a run in the fifth when Laila Byas (FR/Cleveland, Miss.) hit a RBI triple to score Crossno. With the run scored, it gave the Lady Eagles a run-rule victory.

Johnson went 2-3 with 5 RBIs to lead the team.

Cassidi Doyle (JR/Josephine, Texas) pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles. She gave up one run off six hits, walked three and struck out three.
