Lady Eagles Sweep Ecclesia

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist softball team swept the Ecclesia College Lions in a doubleheader on Monday. The Lady Eagles won the first game 17-0 in 5 innings and the game two 7-3. With the wins, the Lady Eagles are now 13-9 on the season.

Game One

The offense exploded in the game one as the Lady Eagles scored 17 runs and collected 16 hits. Tess Temple (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.) and Shelby Jones (SO/Ravenna, Texas) led the team with 2 RBIs, while multiple Eagles had one RBI: Megan Weis (FR/Republic, Mo.), Hali Williams (JR/Bells, Texas), Alyssa Cordell (SO/Bentonville, Ark.), Maddi Althenal, Kennedy Johnson (FR/Forney, Texas), Jillian Hunter (SO/Covington, Tenn.), Emma Shinn (SR/Melbourne, Ark.), Camryn Martin (SR/Marion, Ark.), Laila Byas (FR/Cleveland, Miss.), and Krista Jones (FR/Livingston, Texas).

Temple pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles and gave up only two hits, walked three, and struckout 10.

Game Two

The second game was much closer. Both teams plated a run in the first inning. Weis scored off Kaydra Cole (JR/Paragould, Ark.)'s RBI single. Then the Lions plated two in the top of the fifth. The Eagles responded with one run in the bottom half of the frame as Byas scored on Jones' RBI single. Then the Eagles put the game away in the sixth as they scored five runs. Martin scored on Macy Carter (JR/Paragould, Ark.)'s RBI groundout, Maggie Crossno (SR/Senath, Mo.) scored on Jones's RBI single, and Byas, Jones, and Weis scored off Cordell's double to deep right field.

Cordell led the team with 3 RBIs.

Jillian Hunter pitched 6.0 innings for the Lady Eagles and got the win. She gave up three runs off six hits, walked three and struckout three. Cassidi Doyle (JR/Josephine, Texas) came in and pitched 1.0 inning to get the save. She gave up no hits and struckout two.

The Lady Eagles are next in action on March 30 when they travel to McKenzie, Tenn. to take on Bethel University in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
