LADY EAGLES GO 0-2 AT AMC TOURNAMENT TO END SEASON

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Williams Baptist softball team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday as they went 0-2 at the AMC Tournament, dropping their first game of the day to William Woods 3-2 and then falling to Health Sciences & Pharmacy 4-1 in the elimination game.

Game One

The Owls plated a run in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead over the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles loaded the bases with two outs in the third, but Chasity Gandy (SR/Greenbrier, Ark.) hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning. The Owls would extend their lead to 3-0 with a run in the top of the sixth. The Lady Eagles carried that 3-0 deficit into the bottom of the seventh and tried to force extras when Shelby Jones (SO/Ravenna, Texas) scored on Maggie Crossno (SR/Senath, Mo.)'s RBI groundout and Kaydra Cole (JR/Paragould, Ark.) hit a RBI double to score Megan Weis (FR/Republic, Mo.). The Lady Eagles had a runner on second with two outs, when Gandy hit a groundout to third base to end the game.

The Lady Eagles finished the game with 7 hits and 10 left on base.

Cole led the team going 2-2 with an RBI.

Cassidi Doyle (JR/Josephine, Texas) got the start in the circle and pitched 6.1 innings. She gave up three runs off eight hits, walked six, and struck out ten. Tess Temple (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.) pitched 0.2 innings of relief and struck out one.

Game Two

In their elimation game against the Eutectics, the Lady Eagles struck first with a run in the bottom of the fourth off Cole's RBI sac fly. But the Eutectics responded with a run of their own in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Then in the top of the seventh, the Eutectics struck for three runs to take a 4-1 lead. With the Lady Eagles down to their final three outs, Cole led off the inning with a double to deep left field. Then Gandy struck out swinging for the first out. Katie Anderson (FR/Republic, Mo.) hit into a fielder's choice that saw Hali Williams (JR/Bells, Texas) (pinch running for Cole) out at third base. Finally, Kennedy Johnson (FR/Forney, Texas) hit a fly ball to center field that the center fielder made a spectacular diving grab on to end the game.

The Lady Eagles finished the game with 6 hits and 3 left on base.

Weis went 2-3 in the game, while Cole went 1-1 with an RBI.

Temple pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles and gave up four runs off eleven hits, walked two, and struck out three.
