Lady Eagles Fall to Bethel, Cottey Over Weekend

CONWAY, Ark. - The Williams softball team was swept by the Bethel Wildcats and the Cottey College Comets over the weekend in Conway, Ark. With the losses the Lady Eagles are 4-4 on the season. 

"We faced some really good competition Friday and Saturday. The games showed us a lot of things that we still need to work on, but we will get better and get back on track!" Head Coach Jessica Nutt had to say following the weekend's games. 

Bethel Series

The Lady Eagles lost game one 5-4 and game two 14-6 in five innings. In game one, Anna Besand collected two RBIs on a single and Macy Carter hit a solo shot over the left field wall. Angel Gillette got the start in the circle and pitched 5.0 innings. She gave up three runs off six hits, walked three and struck out three. Maddie Wallace pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up two runs off two hits, walked one and struck out one.

In the second game, Shelby Jones, Laila Byas, Carter, and Besand all collected one RBI. Kaydra Cole went 2-2 at the plate to lead the team. Cassidi Doyle pitched 3.2 innings and gave up eight runs off six hits, walked four and struck out three. Tori Kierbach pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up six runs off five hits and walked three. 

Cottey Series

The Lady Eagles lost game one 17-0 in five innings and game two 6-4. Gillette got the start and pitched 3.1 innings. She gave up three runs off two hits, walked four and struck out one. Doyle pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up nine runs off three hits, walked four and struck out one. Sara Pruitt pitched .2 inning of relief and gave up five runs off two hits and walked one. 

In the second game, Cole, Megan Weis, and Kennedy Johnson all collected one RBI. Johnson and Madison Stokes went 2-4 at the plate to lead the team, with Johnson hitting a solo shot over the left field wall. Maddie Walled pitched a 6.0 innings and gave up six runs off seven hits, walked two and struck out one.
