Lady Eagles Sweep Pioneers With Pair of Run-Rule Victories

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams softball team swept the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers with a pair of run-rule victories on Tuesday afternoon. With the victories the Lady Eagles are now 12-14 on the season.

The Lady Eagles won both games by a score line of 9-1 in six innings. In both games, the Pioneers got an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, before the Lady Eagles got their bats going. 

In game one, Williams scored four runs in the second inning. Laila Byas got things going with a RBI sac bunt, then Madison Stokes hit a RBI single followed by a RBI single form Hali Williams. Anna Besand rounded out the inning with a RBI double to center. Kaitlyn Anderson hit a RBI single in the third. Kennedy Johnson hit a RBI sac fly in the fourth. Byas hit a RBI single in the fifth. Alyssa Cordell finished out the scoring with a 2 RBI double to end the game. 

Maddie Wallace pitched all 6.0 innings for the Lady Eagles. She gave up one run off four hits and struck out one. 

In game two, Megan Weis got the scoring started in the fourth inning with a RBI single to third and Anderson followed with a 2 RBI single. In the fifth inning, Besand hit a RBI single and Cordell hit a RBI double. In the sixth, Stokes hit a RBI single, Macy Carter hit a RBI double, Williams hit a RBI single, and Cordell finished out the scoring with a 2 RBI double. 

Tori Kierbach got the start in the circle and pitched 3.0 innings. She gave up one run off five hits, walked two and struck out two. Angel Gillette pitched 3.0 innings of relief and had two strikeouts. Gillette got credit for the win.

The Lady Eagles start AMC play this weekend with a road trip to Fulton, Mo. on Saturday for a doubleheader against William Woods. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
