Lady Eagles Split With William Woods

FULTON, Mo. - The Williams softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with the William Woods Owls. The Lady Eagles took game one 9-7 in 10 innings and then fell to the Owls in game two 9-1 in five innings. The Lady Eagles are now 13-15 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Game One

The Owls jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Williams got two runs back in the second off a 2 RBI double from Kaitlyn Anderson. Anderson added another run for the Lady Eagles in the fourth when she hit a RBI double to cut the lead to two runs. The Owls extended their lead to three in the fifth, Anderson cut the lead back down to one run in the sixth with a 2 RBI single. Hali Williams tied the game up at six in the top of the seventh with a RBI single. The game went into extra innings and it took till the 10th inning for either team to score a run. Williams scored three when Alyssa Cordell hit a double that scored two and then she came around to score on the play after a throwing error by the shortstop. The Owls tried to rally in the home half, and were able to score one, but that was it. 

Anderson finished with 5 RBI to lead the team. 

Angel Gillette pitched all 10 innings for the Lady Eagles. She gave up seven runs off 11 hits, walked eight and struck out six. 

Game Two

The Lady Eagles didn't have as much luck at the plate in game two as they did in game one. They scored their lone run in second inning when Madison Stokes hit a RBI groundout. 

Cassidi Doyle pitched 3.1 innings and gave up six runs off eight hits, walked seven and struck out one. Maddie Wallace pitched 0.2 inning of relief and gave up three runs off two hits and walked two.

The Lady Eagles travel to Hannibal, Mo. on Monday for a doubleheader against Hannibal-LaGrange. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
