Lady Eagles Split With MUW to Finish Regular Season

COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Williams softball team finished up their regular season slate with a split against the Mississippi University for Women Owls on Saturday. The Lady Eagles won the first game 2-1, but dropped the second game 8-1. The Lady Eagles finish the season 20-26 overall and 7-11 in conference play.

Game One

The Lady Eagles got on the board in the third inning thanks to a 2-run shot from the bat of Alyssa Cordell, and that would be enough to give them the victory. The Owls got a run back in the fourth, but that was all.

Angel Gillette pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles and gave up one run off one hit, walked two, and struck out five.

Game Two

The second game was not as kind to the Lady Eagles, as the Owls took advantage of some timely hitting and walks to have two big innings that the Lady Eagles couldn't recover from. The Owls plated five runs in the third and three runs in the fourth. Williams was able to get a run in the fifth when Anna Besand hit a RBI groundout to score Laila Byas

Maddie Wallace got the start and pitched 3.0 innings. She gave up five runs off four hits, walked four and struck out three. Cassidi Doyle pitched 3.0 innings of relief and gave up three runs off two hits, walked three and struck out two.

Up Next

The Lady Eagles are in action in the AMC Tournament next week starting on Tuesday, May 3. They face off against Missouri Baptist in their first game at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
